Photo Plus Expo 2010

Friday, October 29th, 2010

Just back from Photo Plus 2010, and my feet are killing me! But it was really worth it this year. Discovered some great vendors, saw lots of friends and finally found a cheap place to eat/pick-up food near Javits! (Food Depot @10th and 34th) Wish I could have stayed a bit longer, but I’ve got to be up at 4:30 am tomorrow to catch the Huffington Post Bus to DC for the big rally! (I’m covering it for a newspaper, which means I won’t be allowed to laugh…:)

Back to Photo Plus and my favorite finds:

Cypress Albums – I WILL be adding these lovely albums and presentation boxes to my wedding product offerings asap.

Daylite and Billings – Billing and opportunity/client management software for the MAC and iPhone. I’m all about iPhone apps for productivity and want to sync, baby, sync everything.

Moo - Love the mini business cards with a different photo on each one, perfect for people like me who can’t decide on one! They also have mini stickers and lots of cool biz card holders.

Fro Knows Photo – I saw this guy with a massive fro hanging out at the Adorama booth wearing a shirt that said “I shoot raw”. Well, so do I! Jared Polin, aka Fro, sells them on his website. He has lots of other videos and goodies on his site too!

Vendors I already love, but love even more:

Adorama – So awesome, $50 credit to adoramapix.com for letting them scan your badge. Oh yeah!

Photoshelter – I was bummed they didn’t have a booth, only because I wanted to say hi. But then today I learned of their awesome plan to bring a burger truck to Javits and give out free burgers and fries! And current customers got to skip the line. Nice. I don’t eat meat, but I got some fries.

Things I didn’t like:

PLEASE STOP DISTRIBUTING PLASTIC BAGS!!! Nikon, really?

Paying $3.75 for a bag of tea and hot water.

Having to share a ladies room with models. So not fair. Mirrors are bad enough…..

Andi + Mark : Nantucket Wedding

Friday, October 22nd, 2010

I first met Andi and Mark at a wedding I was photographing in California back in 2007. They had only been dating a few months, but Mark was the best man and that wedding was their first trip as a couple. We were seated at the rehearsal dinner together and I remember how much fun they had with one another. Of course, I was thrilled when they asked me to photograph their wedding on Nantucket! It was my first trip to the island, and it was even more beautiful than I imagined it would be. And most importantly, it was truly the prefect location for their wedding. Mark’s grandmother met her husband there and clearly the island has rightly held an important place in the family since. The weather was perfect and all of the wedding events, a cocktail hour, rehearsal dinner and of course the wedding itself, was fantastic. Nicole and her team at Unique Nantucket did a wonderful job creating a superb venue steps from the ocean. Just lovely.

Desirée + Mike: Hildene Wedding, Manchester, VT

Tuesday, October 12th, 2010

Desirée and Mike met on Fire Island and were married in the lush Green Mountains of Vermont over Labor Day weekend. With whimsical flowers in hues of purple, flower girls with wings, breathtaking views of the Green Mountains and a historic mansion, their wedding was sophisticated, personal and fun. The ceremony and reception were held at Hildene, the historic summer home of Robert Todd Lincoln, in Manchester, Vermont. The ceremony, officiated by Cynthia Kilburn, included the reading of a letter to each other, and both sets of parents also spoke. A friend of the bride’s made the cake using her Elizabeth Fillmore gown as inspiration. “The thought of having a friend make my wedding cake was something that I thought was so special and really meaningful,” Desirée said. “To me, it embodied the whole idea of a wedding of people and families coming together in love and friendship. Not to mention, I was so flattered (having made cakes and realizing how much work and time they take) that she wanted to do it for me.” A Ben and Jerry’s cart was on hand to serve ice cream in addition to the red velvet cake.

Rehearsal Dinner, Bride and Groom Accommodations – Equinox Resort
Ceremony and Reception – Hildene
Hair – American Hairlines, Manchester, Vermont
Catering – Pangaea Restaurant and Lounge, North Bennington, Vermont

Dress – Elizabeth Fillmore from Mark Ingram Bridal, NYC

Butterfly Escort Cards – Paper Orchid Stationary
Photographer Accommodations – Inn at Manchester
Honeymoon – Bora Bora

Just like each bridesmaid’s dress, their bouquets were all unique. And I just love these butterfly escort cards!

It was overcast and a bit cool during the ceremony, but the sun came out during cocktail hour and was just beautiful!

My assistant Laurie and I stayed at the lovely Inn at Manchester, just a few minutes from Hildene. We had a great time shopping at all the outlet stores in Manchester the day after the wedding. We even stopped at the Big Moose Deli on the way home. Just a lovely long weekend all around!

Desirée + Mike: Equinox Pond Pavilion Rehearsal Dinner

Monday, October 11th, 2010

I don’t usually blog about rehearsal dinners, but the location of this one was just stunning! Guest arriving at the Equinox Resort in Manchester, Vermont were shuttled up to a secluded pond at the base of Mt. Equinox. The cool early September temperatures were perfect for roasting marshmallows for s’mores and the view of the mountain at twilight was just breathtaking!

Guests walked along a grassy path to reach the pavilion.

I just love this moment following the speeches with Mike and his Dad!

Their wedding at Hildene is up tomorrow!
