A Classy, Rock ‘n’ Roll Wedding: Omni Royal Orleans

July 19th, 2010

by: Kristy May

Magda and Jamison were married at the Omni Royal Orleans in New Orleans Memorial Day weekend. It was one of the liveliest weddings I have ever been to, no doubt helped by the fantastic music by the Groovy 7. I was particularly moved by their choice of first dance, Romeo and Juliet by the Dire Straits as The Killers (one of my favorite bands) do a remake of it that I love! The groom’s cake was shaped as an electric guitar and it was such fun watching the newlyweds dance and sing up a storm. Enjoy!

Asad + Omaira: French Quarter Portrait Session and News!

July 7th, 2010

by: Kristy May

One evening a few weeks back, I get a call from Asad. He wants to know if I can do a portrait session of he and his wife, Omaira, because they are moving away from New Orleans. I say sure, and ask him when. Tomorrow? Ok! I’m so happy I was free because it was a wonderful surprise to get to photograph such a lovely couple at an exciting time in their lives. He’s starting a new job in Philadelphia and they are expecting a baby girl in the fall. We lucked out with a gorgeous evening in the French Quarter. I don’t normally do portrait sessions outside of weddings and engagements, but this was so much fun, I would love to do more! Just call me!

As it would turn out, about a week after this portrait session, my husband got a job offer in New York and we ended-up leaving New Orleans too! Ryan and I are both from New Orleans, so we were hoping we could stay there, but I really love New York so we are very happy to be back in our other home. I’m still getting settled – apartment wise – and have a bunch of major website changes in the works. More to to come in the next few weeks! Don’t worry, I’ll still be coming to New Orleans for weddings!

Katie + Sean: Holy Name of Jesus and The Columns Hotel

June 17th, 2010

by: Kristy May

Katie and Sean were married at Holy Name of Jesus (at Loyola University, my alma mater!) followed by a festive reception at The Column’s Hotel. We did their engagement session in Audubon Park back in April and I was so happy to see them get married! I know their guests, almost all from out of town, had a real New Orleans treat with fantastic music by The George French Band and not to mention, the oysters and mint juleps!

Ceremony: Holy Name Of Jesus
Reception: The Columns Hotel
Music: The George French Band

Alexandra + Joel: Board of Trade, New Orleans

May 27th, 2010

by: Kristy May

I truly had a blast photographing Alex and Joel’s wedding at the Board of Trade earlier this month. I just loved their style! Everyone got ready at the St. James Hotel, a few doors down from the Board of Trade. Thunderstorms forced the ceremony under the entrance way, but they didn’t damped the celebration one bit. The band, Burgundy, got all the ladies on stage for a rendition of Proud Mary – including the bride’s mother. Seeing all of them singing away with the men watching from the dance floor and was my favorite moment of the night. I don’t always get a chance to sample the cake, but Alex’s cake from The Royal Cakery smelled so good, and each layer was different, so ultra tempting. The little keylime piece I had amazing! I wish I had a chance to try to red velvet and the almond layer too.
